Our history

A history of success

Kuwait Petroleum Italia is a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum International, a company responsible for the refining and distribution of petroleum products outside Kuwait.

Entering the Italian market in 1984 after taking over the Gulf sales network, in 1986 it launched its innovative and original Q8 brand. Since then it has grown rapidly thanks to an acquisitions strategy.

After the acquisition in 1988 of Roloil, a leading company in the lubricants segment, in 1990 it took a great leap in its history with the acquisition of the main activities of Mobil Oil Italiana.

Thanks to this operation, in 1992 it launched the new large Q8 Sales Network. At the same time it completed the range of lubricants with the new Q8Oils line.

In 1996, having optimised its logistics by converting the Naples refinery into coastal storage, it regained a strategic role in Italian refining thanks to the important agreement with Agip Petroli for the acquisition of 50% of the Milazzo Refinery.

In 1999 it concentrated all the activities of production and marketing of lubricants with the Roloil and Q8Oils brand in ConqordOil (formerly Roloil) and in 2001 founded Q8Quaser, a commercial company operating in the domestic wholesale channel.

Finally, in 2014, with the significant acquisition of Shell’s Network, Aviation, Supply and Distribution activities, Kuwait Petroleum Italia confirmed itself as one of the leading operators in the Italian oil market.

The Q8 brand

The Q8 brand entered the Italian market in 1986.
Conceived and created by the London-based designer Wolff Olins, it immediately showed itself to be highly innovative and original, able to stand out in terms of recognition and for being memorable.

The idea of synthesising the pronunciation of the country of origin of the company and of the shareholders in the Q8 formula, showed itself from the outset to be a success, giving Q8 an immediate fame.

The symbol, expressed by the two coloured sails, is inspired by the ancient seafaring vocation and the traditional sailing boats of Kuwait, called dhows. Everything in the brand relates to its origins, thus imparting a strong identity on the company.

Renewed in 2014 in shape and colour, but without detaching itself too much from its origins, in order not to betray the company’s DNA, the new Q8 brand has added dynamism, resourcefulness, freshness, contemporaneity and clarity, characteristics that reflect an increasingly young and dynamic society that is not afraid to change the brand as well as its ability to stay in a market that is constantly changing.

The activities of Kuwait Petroleum Italia S.p.A. are aimed at the fuel distribution network market and, through other Group companies, at direct sales, lubricants and fuels for marine use and aviation.

Certifications

In its constant commitment to offering high-quality products and services aimed at satisfying the needs of its customers and continuously improving the effectiveness of its processes, Kuwait Petroleum Italia SpA in June 2015 achieved the renewal of the certification of its Quality Management system through an Audit conducted by the certification body Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance UK, in line with the requirements of the International Standards ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 14001: 2015, and RC 14001: 2015 and OHSAS 18001: 2007.

The scope of application of the certification includes all administrative, commercial, logistical and governance operations aimed at the marketing of petroleum products to the network of Q8 points of sale and to the Quaser and Segit subsidiaries conducted at the Rome office and the Naples store facility.

The service stations on the Q8 network are not part of the certification.

KRC Project

Kuwait Raffinazione e Chimica S.p.A. (KRC) is the Q8 single-shareholder company which, following the 1993 conversion of the Naples refinery into a coastal depot, handles the work to stop use of and remediate soil on the  land owned where the then disused structures were located.

KRC is strongly committed to using soil remediation techniques to enable a reduction in environmental impacts, also by using cutting-edge technologies.

For this reason, where possible, it is preferred to use soil remediation techniques that are:

  • “in situ”, i.e. without any soil excavation or movement (AS/SVE wells)
  •  “on site”, i.e. with treatment of contaminating soils directly on the site itself, including their possible reuse (land farming, thermal desorption).
