Rome, June 5, 2024 – Q8, one of the leading players in the mobility sector, celebrates an important milestone: 40 years of presence in Italy. This anniversary offers an opportunity to proudly look back at the journey that began in 1984 and reaffirm, with renewed enthusiasm, the commitment to a future of sustainable and responsible mobility. To celebrate this significant moment, Q8 has planned a series of initiatives in which it will involve external stakeholders, from institutions to customers, and communities. These will be opportunities for dialogue and discussion, not only to retrace the significant milestones in the company’s history but also to share the challenges of the future with the energy and innovation that have always distinguished Q8 in the market.

The project "Q8 Sailing for Change" was created with technical and scientific support from LifeGate, as evidence of Q8's concrete commitment.

Q8 Sailing for Change is one of the key initiatives of Q8's anniversary, addressing maritime commercial transport safety, which is regulated by strict standards and supported by continual and significant technological advancements to ensure increasingly high safety standards.

The partnership with LifeGate, a benefit corporation that has been a key reference hub for sustainable development for over twenty years, has also allowed Q8 to address other fronts, such as accidental incidents caused by small boaters and fishing boats during so-called "operational" maneuvers like bilge water cleaning, refueling, and engine maintenance.

s part of a journey across various Italian ports—forty in total by 2025—Q8 will distribute innovative kits developed by T1 Solutions, an entirely Italian company. These kits feature the distinctive FoamFlex sponges, designed to efficiently absorb oil and be reused up to 200 times without releasing harmful substances into the environment.

The kits have been designed to meet specific needs in different situations:

  • The Port Kit is designed for use by port personnel and companies operating in ports. It includes 10 FoamFlex sponges, designed to absorb and store oil present in port areas, thus preventing potential marine pollution. Each kit, according to estimates, has the capacity to absorb up to 54,000 kilograms of hydrocarbons over its lifespan, equivalent to approximately 1,931 full tanks of gas for compact cars.
  • The Boaters Kit, on the other hand, is intended for recreational boat crews. Composed of 3 FoamFlex sponges, this kit aims to prevent oil spills in bilge waters, as well as intervene quickly in case of accidental spills during maintenance or refueling operations. According to estimates, each kit has the capacity to absorb up to 540 kilograms of hydrocarbons over its lifespan, equivalent to around 19 full tanks of gas for compact cars.[1]

The main objective of the initiative is also to promote cultural change—raising awareness in civil society about an often-overlooked problem, while promoting more responsible and virtuous behaviors, thanks to the concrete solutions provided, which can help reduce the problem at its source.

As part of the Q8 Sailing for Change project, Q8 will join the maritime community by participating in the prestigious Barcolana regatta with its own sailboat and crew. On this occasion, Q8 will provide a thousand kits for boaters.

During Barcolana, Q8, as a technical partner of the event, will participate in the Barcolana Sea Summit, where crucial topics related to sustainability and marine environmental protection will be discussed, offering its own contribution through dedicated initiatives and projects.

Q8's presence at Barcolana is therefore an opportunity to combine celebrating the company’s past and present with strategies for looking towards the future with optimism and determination, sailing towards new horizons of innovation and sustainability.

The Engine of Q8’s Success: Its People

A key element throughout Q8’s history is its People, whose valuable contribution has allowed the Q8 brand to achieve and maintain its success over the years.

A workforce not only highly professional but also motivated, capable of working as a team to pursue common goals, with a dynamic and innovative approach recognized and appreciated even in the industry. A cohesive team with a strong sense of belonging that is enthusiastically supporting the celebrations for the 40th anniversary.

The Communication Campaign: “Q8: 40 Years in Motion in Italy”

Among the numerous activities related to the 40th-anniversary celebration of Q8 is a cross-media communication campaign that brings the brand’s history and its continual evolution to life. Planned across TV, radio, digital platforms, outdoor ads, and social media, the campaign retraces the company’s journey over the years, highlighting the milestones that have positioned the brand at the forefront of the energy sector in Italy and celebrating the role of Customers, who have always been central to Q8’s commitment. A specially designed logo has been used across all materials to ensure consistency and recognition of the communication campaign.

The 40th anniversary of Q8 is an important milestone that gives further momentum to continue the journey with determination, facing new challenges and moving responsibly towards a better future for all.

[1] The collection potential refers to the sponges' capacity to capture oil throughout their lifespan, using them up to 200 times. The actual data will reflect the real quantities of hydrocarbons present in the water, influenced by the level of pollution, the promptness of use by the personnel equipped with the sponges, weather factors, and the ability to concentrate it in a limited operational area. The equivalent in terms of the number of full gas tanks is based on a 40-liter tank, which is the average capacity of a compact car.
