Rome, January 23, 2020 – Today, the Villoresi Est Service Area was inaugurated on the A8 Milano-Laghi motorway, marking the most iconic site of Q8's highway network. With a multi-product offering that includes LPG, methane, and electric charging stations, energy efficiency solutions, recyclable materials, and the use of renewable energy, Villoresi Est is a model of excellence in sustainable mobility.
The site boasts several notable achievements, including the installation of a canopy of over 1,400 square meters—the largest in the entire Q8 network. Despite its size, the canopy was installed in just three hours thanks to a specialized construction and installation technique.
Villoresi Est was created as part of the “Cre8 - Creating the Station of the Future” project, which was developed by Q8 to promote alternative fuels. The project involves the creation of more than 30 multi-product service stations and received recognition from the European Union, with funding support from the "Connecting Europe Facility" initiative, promoted by the INEA (Innovation and Networks Executive Agency) for its methane and electric infrastructure.
“The site inaugurated today,” said Azzam Almutawa, Executive Vice President of Marketing at Kuwait Petroleum International, “represents a model of excellence that fits fully into the international Q8 network across Europe. Strategically located along one of the main routes connecting Italy and Europe, Villoresi Est is one of the most significant investments in KPI's distribution network. It also demonstrates shareholders' interest in strengthening the Q8 brand in both the European and Italian markets.”
“Villoresi Est perfectly embodies Q8's concept of the service station of the future,” added Giuseppe Zappalà, CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Italia. “A modern, sustainable, and connected service station that combines innovation, customer care, and environmental awareness as key factors for success. This site also confirms Q8's positive collaboration with all key stakeholders, both national and European—a synergy that has made possible the realization of this iconic Service Area in Q8's highway network.”
“INEA is particularly pleased to support this action aimed at spreading multi-product service stations,” stated Richard Ferrer, Head of the Innovation Team at INEA (European Commission). “The transition towards a zero-impact economy is one of the main goals of the European Commission, requiring significant efforts to modernize the transport sector. The Q8 network will offer greater choices of transport fuels, including alternatives that benefit European citizens and economic operators. This station is undoubtedly another step forward,” Ferrer added, “towards a more sustainable, secure, and economically accessible transportation system, ideally powered increasingly by locally-produced energy, embracing a circular economy concept.”
“This is the thirteenth methane station on the highway network,” explained Alessandro Mattinzoli, Regional Councillor for Economic Development in Lombardy. “This achievement puts Lombardy in first place in Italy. Here, we have reached an exemplary milestone: in a sustainable development perspective for the fuel distribution network aimed at increasing the supply of low environmental impact products, incentivizing the use of green vehicles, we now have 200 methane stations in Lombardy. This important result has been achieved also thanks to the productive and close collaboration between the Lombardy Region and Q8. Over the years, collaboration with industry players has produced increasingly positive results in terms of growth for the companies involved and benefits for citizens through the improved supply of eco-sustainable fuels, with positive effects on air quality and the environment. These are also essential structural measures.
