Q8 Quaser Fuels

Q8 Quaser provides off-network fuel sales, offering gasoline, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) outside the traditional network of distributors. This page features the various types of Q8 Quaser fuels, along with their specifications and qualities.

Gasoline

Gasoline appears as a transparent green liquid, volatile and flammable, composed of a mixture of hydrocarbons obtained from the refining of crude oil. The green color is due to a dye added as required by regulatory authorities to help prevent potential fraud. Gasoline complies with the European specification EN 228, which also sets limits for environmental protection (sulfur, benzene, and aromatic content).

Key Characteristics and Performance:

  • anti-knock Power (Octane Number);
  • volatility;
  • density.

The required performance includes:

  • easy engine starting at all temperatures;
  • quick engine stabilization after starting:
  • smooth engine operation under all driving conditions;
  • compression resistance, meaning no premature knocking during combustion.

Diesel

Another product obtained from the primary distillation of crude oil is diesel.

Its quality depends on the characteristics of the crude oil it comes from and the production techniques used (cracking, visbreaking, etc.).

Diesel, long used almost exclusively for heavy vehicles, has been experiencing significant growth in Italy and worldwide. The vehicle fleet has gradually shifted to diesel, thanks to the development of turbo-diesel engines, often equipped with modern Common Rail technology. In addition to being more cost-effective than gasoline, diesel provides better fuel efficiency and higher torque values.

Automotive diesel is used to power compression-ignition engines (diesel engines) and complies with the European specification EN 590, which sets limits for environmental protection (sulfur and aromatic content).

Cetane Number

A measure of diesel fuel's ignitability, influencing cold engine starting and combustion characteristics such as efficiency, noise, and smoke levels.

Cloud Point

The temperature at which paraffin crystals start to form in the diesel, which can affect fuel flow.

Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP)

An estimate of the lowest temperature at which a diesel-powered vehicle can operate, indicating the fuel's cold weather performance.

Water and Sediment Levels

Indicators of impurities present in the diesel. If they exceed the limits, these indices may indicate product contamination or, in the case of sediment, fuel instability.

Stability

The ability of diesel fuel to avoid forming sediment during storage. Excessive instability can lead to the formation of gums and sludge, which may clog the fuel system filters.

Here is a useful list of diesel fuel performance characteristics:

  • Good engine performance in fast diesel engines (cars), heavy diesel engines (trucks), as well as diesel engines used in agricultural machinery and earth-moving equipment.
  • Low fuel consumption and reduced noise levels.
  • Smoke and pollutant emissions within the regulatory limits.
  • Reliable cold starting.
  • Operability at low temperatures.

Let's summarize the most common issues:

  • Injector fouling, leading to increased noise, higher fuel consumption, and smoke.
  • Difficulty starting at low temperatures.
  • Filter clogging and reduced diesel flow in the fuel system due to the presence of paraffin, organic, or inorganic sediments.
  • Deterioration in fuel quality after extended storage periods.
  • Formation of sediments and gums.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)

LPG is a mixture of light petroleum fractions (propane and butane), obtained during the refining process. These components are gaseous at atmospheric pressure and room temperature but become liquid under slight pressure.

LPG is used for combustion and as a fuel; being in a gaseous state during use allows for excellent mixing with air, resulting in more efficient combustion, reduced consumption, and lower emissions of polluting compounds.

The LPG used as fuel complies with the limits set by the European standard EN 589.
